Thanksgiving

So, I, Aunt Mandi, FINALLY made it back to Kansas to physically see Aidan for the very first time since he was diagnosed. Heading there I prepared myself to be upset at the sight of my sick nephew, trying to think of how I would control my emotions and not look like the big baby everyone knows I am. Finally, I show up at Aidan’s house and for the first 10 min I dont even see the little guy because the moment I pulled up he darted to his bedroom. And guess who showed up??

A monster with a chainsaw of course!

Once I was there I realized that Aidan is so silly there is no way I could spend any time being sad. I was too busy fighting off the monsters and listening to little boy giggles. No one would have ever guessed that this was just a few days after having his second Hickman surgery.

Playing at “Gramma Toome’s”

I think every moment we spent around Aidan we were laughing. It reminded me although Aidan has leukemia, he is still Aidan. He is still silly, loves his monsters, never breaks character and HATES saying goodbye. ❤

God bless you and your family. I am a proud aunt and am thankful every day for the health of my little nieces and baby nephew – I can only imagine what it must be like to have this happen in your family. You are a wonderful aunt and clearly Aidan is an awesome little guy. He will be in my prayers and please know your video of him lifted my spirits today.

Hi there. 🙂 I would like to let you know that I was reading an article on cnn.com for a school assignment about your nephew, and the story really touched me. I wish I had some money to buy a drawing (more so I wish I had a debit card, then I would be able to buy one), but I don’t. The most I can do is say I’m happy that you guys have been able to get through this positively. It must be very hard for you and for Aidan’s parents as well. I promoted the etsy site on my facebook in hopes that someone will notice it, click on the link, and buy a drawing. (I know you guys are doing fine at the moment, but in this situation, I think it’d be nice to give all the help possible. :]) I’ll be looking forward to the day he makes a full recovery. 🙂
    Sincerely,

I just saw Aidan’s story on cnn.com – what a brave and inspiring person he is, much cooler than most adults I know! I’ve been struggling with what to get my “little” brother – who’s in med school and specializing in oncology – for Christmas this year, and Aidan solved my dilemma with his awesome monsters (I’m torn between “Wolf Man No. 1” and “Purple Monster”, so I’m getting them both!). My thanks to Aidan for being such a great artist, and my prayers to him and his beautiful family – stay strong, you are all so amazing.

We have a son who will be 3 in Feb2011. Aiden is so much like my son, Arya. Cancer knows no race, religion, gender or nationality. As a person from India, I was raised my family elders to see god in every human. I see the purity in Aiden and would like to think that its God that is personally helping Aiden to fight these monsters and imprison them for eternity on a canvas.

I have made a small donation and will definitely pray for his and his brave family’s well being.

    Love and Respects
